Dana Romano’s Spicy Italian Sausage Penne Recipe

Sausage Penne Recipe

Look out, here comes my brother, the late great crazy Italian Dana Romano’s outstanding spicy Italian Sausage Penne recipe! To be exact, spicy Italian sausage chicken penne.

Another one of Dana’s phenomenal Italian Pasta recipes! Within the first few days of family members sampling, then relishing the exquisite flavor, I had multiple phone calls asking for this recipe!

Dana was the author of the FB page, “Those Crazy Italians” Believe me he stays true to that name, (in more ways than just his cooking abilities) Lol. He created and shared crazy, delicious recipes like this Italian Sausage penne with family and friends. Dana also serve up a good size helping of humor and hospitality to go along with it!

A Simple Recipe

This entree is a spicy, tangy dish with pizazz that leaves you looking and longing for more! And besides that, I love the fact that it does not take half of your day or half of your pantry to prepare. Simple recipe, simple ingredients, simple task, simple mind! (Oh sorry Dana, Tee hee. I know you are looking down on me and smiling.)

There is not too much left to be said until you take a crack at it. Then and only then, you can rave on and on like every Tom, Dick or Harry, (Kody, Chelsey etc. etc. did.)

NOTE: Dana’s instructions were… “serve with lots of fresh bread and lots of napkins, or just use the bread as a napkin!” That is how he ate hot dogs as a little boy, bun, wiener along with napkin and all. Lol!!!

Michele Romano Recipes

Italian Sausage Penne

Ingredients:

  • 6 spicy Italian sausages, sliced in rounds
  • 2 chicken breasts cut in bite size pieces.
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 cans whole tomatoes, (blended in food processor or blender)
  • 2 cups tomato juice
  • 1 block or 250-gram tub cream cheese
  • 1 tbsp basil
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • Franks red hot sauce (generous amount, use own discretion)
  • One of each (red, green yellow) Bell peppers, sliced in thin strips
  • Fresh grated Parmesan
  • Fresh black pepper
  • 3 cups Penne pasta, cooked al dente

Preparation

  1. Saute onions and garlic in olive oil in saucepan.
  2. Add blended tomatoes and tomato juice.
  3. Using a wire whisk, blend in cream cheese into simmering mixture.
  4. Add in basil and oregano.
  5. Add a generous amount of Franks Red Hot. I like it spicy but tend to go easy if I’m cooking for people with intolerance to heat. (For instance, my 3 menopausal sisters!)
  6. Fry hot Italian sausage and chicken breast pieces until cooked through and add to sauce.
  7. Simmer on low 30 minutes.
  8. Meanwhile, place sliced peppers on cookie sheet, brush with olive oil, salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Roast in a 350-degree oven 10 minutes, turn and roast another 10 minutes.
  10. Serve sauce over hot pasta.
  11. Place a mixture roasted peppers on top or on the side of each serving.
  12. Top with Parmesan (grated is good) and fresh black pepper.
