Scrumptious for anyone who loves shrimp and pasta recipes, particularly when combined with a marinara sauce over pasta! This top secret Garlic shrimp pasta recipe with marinara sauce boasts a flavor that is hard to beat. Whenever possible, I like to use fresh herbs not only for taste, but the aroma. I always keep a bag of fresh organic lemons in my fridge that I like to use in a lot of my Italian seafood recipes. It always adds a bit of zing and is full of vitamin C.

This top secret recipe comes from an old Italian family cookbook handed down in the Romano family to my father Guiseppe. Serve it up with a crispy Italian salad topped with artichoke dressing! Throw a nice garlic loaf in the oven and you have a meal fit for a king or queen!

Garlic Shrimp Pasta Recipe with Marinara Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 20 – 25 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, sliced
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

Marinara Sauce:

  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 small can (5 -½ oz) tomato paste
  • 2 tomato paste cans water
  • ½ cup dry red wine
  • 1 large 28 oz can Italian plum tomatoes (pureed)
  • 1-1/2 tsp basil
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 3/4 tsp sea salt
  • ¼ cup Fresh Italian parsley, chopped
  •  1 lb (454g) linguine or spaghetti
  •  Fresh grated Romano or Asiago cheese (if desired)

Preparation:

Shrimp:

  1. Heat oil and butter in a large skillet.
  2. Add garlic and red pepper flakes, cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add shrimp, gently stir fry until pink.
  4. Sprinkle with lemon juice.
  5. Remove from heat and set aside to marinate.

Marinara Sauce:

  1. In sauce pot, saute onions and garlic in oil until soft.
  2. Stir fry tomato paste into onions, add 2 tomato paste cans of water.
  3. Add red wine and pureed tomatoes.
  4. Add basil, oregano, salt and pepper.
  5. Simmer sauce for 60 minutes.
  6. Note: Meanwhile boil pasta until al dente (not mushy)
  7. Add shrimp, including marinate from pan into sauce.
  8. Add Italian parsley last.
  9. Serve immediately over hot bed of pasta.
  10. Top off with cheese if desired.
